Pål Varhaug ready for GP2!
25.01.2011

19 year old Pål Varhaug have signed a contract to drive both GP2 and GP2Asia for the French DAMS-team this year. He will be the first Norwegian ever in GP2.
-I’m so happy. This is truly a dream come true for me driving for one of the
best GP2-teams. I’m now at the second highest level in racing and a huge
step closer to my goal to be Norway’s first Formula 1-driver, Pål Varhaug
said.
Pål Varhaug will team up with Frenchman Romain Grosjean, who drove Formula 1 for Renault in 2009.
-I couldn’t get a better team mate. Grosjean is one of the fastest drivers
in the world, and I hope to learn a lot from him. This season will be a
learning year for me, and then I hope to be able to fight for the victory in
2012.
Pål Varhaug became historic when he won the first GP3 race ever in Barcelona last year. The rest of the season was hampered by technical problems, but he finished the season in style by setting the fastest lap in the final race at Monza. In November he did an impressive test for the GP2-team DAMS in Abu Dhabi, and now he is ready to step up to the level just under Formula 1.
-Pål did a great job at the GP2-test in Abu Dhabi. Normally a rookie is 1,5
second behind the best guys the first day, but Pål was just a second behind
a driver like Sam Bird. That’s impressing and we are looking forward to work
with Pål this season, Loic David, general manager in DAMS said.
The GP2Asia series starts in Abu Dhabi February 11th, and the main GP2
Series starts in Istanbul May 7th.
